2013 Begins Strong for Twin Cities’ Residential Construction

Residential housing permits came on strong in spite of the frigid weather in January. Permits were up almost 70 percent over those issued in the month of January 2012, while planned units were more than 50 percent higher.

In the Hot Sheet: Nationwide housing production rose 3.6 percent in October to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 894,000 units, according to the U.S. Commerce Department. This is the highest pace of new-home construction since July of 2008.

Twin Cities’ Residential Construction Continues Strong in November 2012

Twin Cities residential housing continues to rebound in 2012, with November permits showing a nearly three-fold increase over November of 2011. At 68 percent of the units permitted in November, multi-family construction remains very healthy.

August permit statistics show another strong month of growth for new construction. Units permitted in August, 2012, more than doubled the rate in August, 2011; and year-to-date, units were up almost 80 percent over this time last year.
