Twin Cities Residential Construction Permits Remains At 10-Year High

Coming off its best summer since 2006, the Twin Cities saw continued growth in new home permits in September. The number of residential building permits pulled in September soared 14.25 percent to 601 units compared to 526 in 2016.

Slight Rise for Twin Cities Residential Construction in November, 2014

April 2014 Twin Cities Residential Construction Activity Continues Relatively Flat

Permitting activity for new residential construction showed a slight drop for the month of April 2014, keeping overall year-to-date activity relatively flat. The month saw single-family permits down about three percent, permits down by six percent and units down by nine percent.

Twin Cities Residential Construction Remains Steady

In contrast to the weather this March, local builders kept the residential housing market on a stable track. The month remained virtually unchanged in single-family permitting, but did see an eight percent drop in total units from March 2012, all from the more volatile multi-family market.

2014 Starts Strong for Twin Cities Residential Construction

Continuing on the growth trend set in 2013, the Minneapolis/St. Paul region had strong residential permit activity this January. Builders pulled 15 percent more permits for 51 percent more units in January 2014 than they did in January 2013.

Twin Cities Residential Construction on Pace to reach nearly 10,000 units in 2013.

Despite a nearly 50 percent drop in planned units from November 2012 to November 2013, overall, residential construction in the region remains quite stable. The reduction can be attributed to fewer multi-family units permitted, as single-family homes were up by four percent for the same period.
